Music Explorer’s Guide – Mozart

Maybe you have a long friendship with the classical music of the past and today, or maybe you have just a passing acquaintance but would like to know more. Maybe you’re not exactly sure how to listen to the world’s great concert music.

Bring your casual clothes, an appetite and an open, fun attitude to the University Club of Phoenix for a night of musical exploration at the Music Explorer’s Guide: Mozart (click for flyer). We will provide a real-life “Listening Guide” who will make you think, feel and laugh with a performance of Mozart’s Quintet K. 452.

We will set you at ease about classical music while giving you some guide posts to grab on to as you hear some of the valley’s finest musicians playing Mozart’s Quintet of 1784 in a comfortable living room setting.

Featuring musicians:

Marc Goldstick, oboe
Mary Jackson, clarinet
Kristilyn Woods, bassoon
Martha Sharpe, horn

Michael Shui, piano

Donald Harvey, Listening Guide

Donald Harvey has been involved in Valley music and arts since arriving here in August 2002. His relationship with music began with piano lessons at 8, followed by horn at 11. After 7 years of piano, the process became painful for both him and his teacher so the focus was on horn. Off to college as a horn performance major, life took him down as different path so he put down the horn for 16 years. Just before moving to Arizona to be near his retired parents, he picked the horn back up and the result has been a very active playing schedule with many groups including, Chandler Symphony, MusicaNova, West Valley Symphony, Scottsdale Arts Orchestra, Scottsdale Philharmonic, Phoenix Theatre, Arizona Opera, Phoenix Opera, Cornua Irae, McKemy Trio  and a variety of shows and specialty musical offerings. He has a particular interest in small ensemble music and has formed an organization which focuses on performance, composition and connecting people.
